Finance Workers Unite: What's your main issue at work?  Logo
  • Finance Workers: What's your number one issue at work?

We want to hear from banking, insurance, building society and outsourced finance workers.
  • Issues explained:

    Unpaid overtime

    Unpaid overtime is:

    • Doing extra hours over & above your contracted hours
    • Staying late (for instance on a call) & not getting the time back or pay for that time.
    • Having to log into systems, set up or be at your place of work before your start-time.
    • Working in your own time to meet performance objectives.

    Unachieveable targets

    Unachievable targets are:

    • When it is impossible to achieve your targets without working in your own time, rushing a customer through a call or review, or being expected to hit 100% productivity weekly.
    • Deadlines that don't allow you enough time to complete the work.
    • Unrealistic sales/retention/growth targets.
    • Being set up to fail with targets that can’t be balanced with quality.

    Multi-skilling

Multi-skilling can include not limited to:

    • Performing roles outside of your contract and not being paid for all these roles
    • Doing tasks you have limited training in
    • Being asked to work on so many roles or products that you risk non-compliance or errors and do not have time to keep on top of training.

    Customer abuse

Abusive behaviour covers a wide range of actions:

    • Verbal abuse (including name-calling and gratuitous swearing), intimidation, aggression or hostile behaviour and harassment.
    • Abusive behaviour can sometimes infringe on your human rights - for instance if it is racist or homophobic in nature.
    • Your employer should take all reasonable steps to ensure staff are not subject to verbal abuse or harassment at work.
