Wealth Tax Petition
  • Unite Community Call for a Wealth Tax

  • Unite the Union advocates for a wealth tax on the UK's richest individuals, proposing an annual 1% levy on the net assets of those worth £4 million or more.

The union estimates this measure could generate £25 billion per year. The primary goal of this revenue generation is to fund crucial investment in public services—such as the NHS and local government—and industry, thereby avoiding austerity measures, tackling grotesque inequality, and funding initiatives like significant public sector pay rises.

Unite argues that this tax is necessary because wealth is grossly skewed towards the top 1% and that waiting for economic growth alone will not generate the funds needed to fix the UK's "crippled" public services and infrastructure.

  • Unite Communities: Cut Sanctions Not Benefits.

The Unite Communities campaign, "Cut Sanctions Not Benefits," demands an end to the government's "cruel and ineffective" benefit sanctions regime, which the union argues pushes vulnerable individuals, including the sick, disabled, and low-paid workers, deeper into poverty.

Unite Community stresses that the punitive system is counter-productive, as financial stress and destitution—often forcing people to rely on food banks—deter claimants from effective job searching. The campaign calls for the government to provide genuine support rather than continuing a system that is failing those most in need of a fair social security system.
