AI: Threat or Opportunity 1 day Course -
This one-day course explores how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming workplaces, society, and trade union organising. It is designed to equip Unite representatives, members, and the wider community with the knowledge and confidence to understand AI’s impact and respond effectively.
Participants will be introduced to the history and core concepts of AI, building a foundation for understanding how these technologies are shaping modern working environments. The course also examines the relationship between AI and equality, exploring who benefits, who may be disadvantaged, and how existing inequalities can be either reinforced or challenged.
A key focus is on the broader social and political implications of AI, including its role in social media, the spread of information, and its influence on public discourse and movements. Attendees will consider how these developments affect workers and communities.
The course also provides practical insight into organising around AI, helping reps to develop strategies for using technology responsibly, protecting members’ interests, and strengthening union power in a rapidly changing landscape. Throughout the day, participants will share experiences, learn from one another, and build networks.
By the end of the course, attendees will have a clearer understanding of AI, its implications, and how to advocate for fairness, equality, and worker protection in an AI-driven world.
